Learning Russian is not hard, you would be speaking and understanding Russians after at most 2, 3 months of normal study of elementary material. The hardest part is to become really fluent (It is not actually a need though). Surely, it will need more live Russian video chat with your partner. I am fluent in Russian language and had studied several material in the learning process. I will suggest only two of these endless books and language sets that I had chance to review. You can learn more than enough Russian just yourself with them. Buy both of them. The first one will give you the best grammar skills. The second one is pure audio which is needed to really talk and understand with the correct grammar from the first book. Both of them will cost you not more than $20
